Service Mentoring Program

PictureIn order to show our commitment to our Wave Week and Seminar alumni, Spark the Wave offers long-term mentoring for Wave Week delegates, seminar participants and their volunteer groups. We wish to insure the future success of teens after they complete Wave Week or seminars by connecting them to experts in leadership and volunteer service. Our mentors work with the teens via the phone and/or e-mail. They do not make personal contact with teens individually, though they may be invited to attend a meeting of the service group that must be chaperoned. All of our mentors have completed a volunteer screening and background check.

Alumni may also be eligible for service-oriented grants from STW to help them get their project or great service idea off the ground.

Aspects of Service Mentoring

  1. Short-term Mentoring: There will be 3 forms of short-term mentoring provided by STW, all of which will be accessible online at www.sparkthewave.org.
First, STW will compile a volunteer database where delegates can search for volunteering opportunities for themselves or their school groups.
Second, STW will provide informational guides that can be used by delegates, such as our Fundraising Guide.
Third, STW will have available to delegates an online mentoring forum to post one-time problems/questions that will be promptly answered by the STW experienced mentoring staff.

  2. Long-Term Mentoring: This is a program that will offer long-term mentoring for STW program participants and their volunteer groups.
Our mentors work with the teens via the phone and/or e-mail. They are never to make personal contact with the teen individually, though they may be invited to attend a meeting of the service group that must be chaperoned. All of our mentors have completed a volunteer screening and background check.
